What The Pagan Madonna Is About
The statue of an ancient fertility goddess known as the Pagan Madonna is stolen from the museum of a small town on Lake Balaton, and on the same night a museum attendant is badly injured. The priceless object, made of solid gold, is pursued by the inexperienced investigator Kardos together with a detective who prefers to settle things with his fists, and the case unfolds around the resort towns along the lake. The ninety eight minute Hungarian production, in which István Bujtor plays the lead and which he also wrote the source story for, became the first entry in a long running series and, despite doubts about the idea of a comedy built on brawling, found a very large audience. András Kern and Ferenc Kállai are also in the cast.
