What The Girl from Missouri Is About
Eadie Chapman, who leaves Missouri for New York to find a wealthy husband, gets work as a chorus girl and is soon performing at the parties of the millionaire Frank Cousins. He proposes to her, but when it comes out that he is bankrupt he takes his own life, and the police pick Eadie up with his jewellery and question her. T. R. Paige, another millionaire who defends her, changes his manner once she becomes taken with his son Tom and declares her a gold digger. The screenplay of Jack Conway’s seventy three minute American film was written by Anita Loos, and it is Jean Harlow’s first film after the Production Code came into force, which is also why its title was changed from Born to Be Kissed. It was completed in 1934.
