What The Gnome-Mobile Is About
An eccentric lumber millionaire and his grandchildren get caught up in the troubles of some forest gnomes looking for the rest of their tribe. When the man says he has been seeing gnomes he is taken for mad and locked away, and getting him out falls to the children and the gnomes. The source is the surprise here: Upton Sinclair's 1936 children's book The Gnomobile, which means the real business is saving a stand of ancient redwoods from a logging company. Walter Brennan plays both the millionaire and a nine hundred and forty three year old gnome.
