What The Grump Is About
An eighty-year-old Finnish farmer still lives entirely by his own rules. He is angry at everything, refuses every new thing, and does not like where the world is going. After an accident he cannot manage alone and has to move in with his son in the city. The son is a doormat, the daughter-in-law is domineering, and the house is not made for him. Within days he has the household upside down. And then something nobody expected happens: he turns out to be useful to them. Dome Karukoski directs, with Antti Litja as the old man. It is adapted from Tuomas Kyrö's bestselling book and was a considerable success in Finland. It is a comedy, and underneath it a film about ageing and about feeling unnecessary.
