What The Immortals Is About
Four former soldiers who call themselves the Immortals meet every year to remember the days of the war. In the summer of 1985, tired of their monotonous lives, they decide to rob a bank. A chief inspector close to retirement crosses their path and gives the last days of his service to solving that robbery. But the deeper he takes the investigation the more he finds than he expected; what comes out is older than a file about a robbery. The film tells the crime not as a puzzle but as the way the past calls people to account. Joaquim de Almeida and Emmanuelle Seigner appear in Antonio-Pedro Vasconcelos’s hundred and thirty minute Portuguese film, completed in 2003.
