What The Magnet Is About

Johnny, the only child of two psychologists, trades an invisible watch to a much smaller boy for a large magnet, and then cannot live with himself. He gives the magnet to a man collecting for a charity auction, and the thing grows from there until it makes him a hero without his meaning to be. T. E. B. Clarke wrote it, Michael Balcon produced, the studio was Ealing and Charles Frend directed. It was the first leading role for James Fox, billed in the credits as William Fox. Most of it was shot across the water from Liverpool, on the coast of the Wirral, and the film stands as a decent record of those years.
