What The Notorious Landlady Is About
A junior American diplomat posted to London rents a house and falls for his landlady. He sets out both to clear her and to keep the entire business from his superiors at the embassy, and manages neither. Richard Quine directs from a screenplay by Larry Gelbart and Blake Edwards, based on a 1956 story by Margery Sharp. Jack Lemmon and Kim Novak are the couple, with Fred Astaire as the diplomat's exasperated boss.
