The Pope: Answers

Ten young people from different parts of the world meet Pope Francis in a room in Rome. The meeting has no rules: the questions were not supplied in advance and no subject was ruled out. They bring the concerns of their generation directly; sexual abuse in the church, abortion, homosexuality, migration, mental health and pornography all come to the table. Some tell their own stories. Jordi Évole's documentary is not a conventional interview; the camera stays in the room and the conversation turns tense at times. What is interesting is less what the Pope answers than the fact that the representative of the institution and a generation that does not trust it are sitting at the same table. The conversation runs in Spanish. On some questions the Pope does not give ground, and on others he does not answer directly, which the film does not conceal. Who it's for: Viewers who like documentaries about religion and society, generational argument, and conversation films. Who it's not for: The format is talk in a single room and is visually static. It is short, so some subjects are left unfinished.
