What The Prince and the Pauper Is About
Two boys are born the same day: Prince Edward in the palace and Tom Canty in the poorest part of London. Years later Tom sneaks into the palace garden and meets the prince. They are identical. For a joke they swap clothes. When the guards come in they take the prince for a beggar and throw him out. Both of them tell the truth and nobody believes either. Immediately afterwards the king dies, and the boy who is to take the throne is out on the street. William Keighley directs; a hundred and eighteen minutes, adapted from Mark Twain's novel. The two boys are played by real twins, Billy and Bobby Mauch, with Errol Flynn and Claude Rains in the cast and music by Erich Wolfgang Korngold.
