What The Street with No Name Is About
Two killings in Center City. The suspect who is arrested has in fact been framed; he is released on bail and murdered straight afterwards. Inspector Briggs of the FBI puts a young agent, Gene Cordell, into the field: under the name George Manly he will move into the worst part of town and let the same racket see him as easy prey. It works. Cordell catches the eye of Alec Stiles, who runs the gang, and is taken in. From that point on the fear of being found out never leaves. William Keighley directs, with Richard Widmark as Stiles. It is a film noir shot in a documentary manner, on real locations, with the FBI's own procedures woven into the telling.
