What The Saint in London Is About
John Paddy Carstairs’s 1939 film is the third in RKO’s Saint series and was shot in London. George Sanders plays Simon Templar, who gets tangled with a gang of counterfeiters who have murdered a European count and taken a million pounds off him. Inspector Teal of Scotland Yard helps him reluctantly, being convinced that Templar pulled the job himself, while the light-fingered Dugan and a socialite named Penny Parker who will not be shaken off are considerably more willing. The screenplay comes from Leslie Charteris’s story The Million Pound Day, and Charteris reportedly rated this the best of the RKO run. Sally Gray plays Penny.
