What The Square Peg Is About

Norman Pitkin and Mr Grimsdale are council workmen repairing the road outside an army base when they fall out with the military. Very shortly afterwards both are called up and land squarely in the hands of the sergeant they had just humiliated. They are sent to France to build roads ahead of the advancing troops, and are taken prisoner. Pitkin has one piece of luck: he is the exact double of a German general named Schreiber. Norman Wisdom plays both parts himself and carries the entire comedy. This 1958 British war farce works by dropping Wisdom's clumsy little man into the middle of a war, with Edward Chapman as Mr Grimsdale.
