What The Scandalous Adventures of Buraikan Is About
The film is set in the Edo period. New laws are coming into force in the city. The laws are laid down in the name of morality. Their number keeps growing. The place hit hardest is the pleasure district. Those living there are worn down by the restrictions. Then an outlaw appears. The man pushes the people of the district to act. A revolt is slowly organised. The account is built on that resistance. The film runs period drama and comedy together. Fireworks and theatre scenes are inside the account. Tatsuya Nakadai and Shima Iwashita take the leads, with Tetsuro Tamba and Shoichi Ozawa also in the cast, in Masahiro Shinoda’s Japanese film of 1970.
