The Sign of Zorro

This 1958 film was assembled from eight episodes of Disney's Zorro television series. Don Diego returns to California from his studies in Spain and finds the town in the hands of the cruel commandant Monastario. To protect his father and the townspeople he plays the mild nobleman by day and puts on the mask of Zorro at night, with his mute servant Bernardo also acting a part and working alongside him. Because it was cut together from episodes the story advances in pieces and some scenes do not quite connect. Against that, the sword choreography of the period and Guy Williams's performance are counted among the best known versions of the character. It runs a little over ninety minutes. Who it's for: viewers who like classic adventure and old Disney productions. Who it's not for: anyone expecting a coherent film narrative; this is a compilation.
