What The Tattered Dress Is About
After a wild night, Charleen, the adulterous wife of the wealthy Michael Reston, comes home with her dress in rags, and a murder follows. J. G. Blane, the best defence lawyer in New York and a man whose own marriage exists only on paper, arrives in a small town in Nevada to take the case. The townspeople and the politically powerful sheriff are openly hostile to the Restons. Blane works out too late that he has been taken for a ride. Jack Arnold’s noir is less about the courtroom than about a town administering its own justice.
