What The Vaccine War Is About
When the pandemic hits, scientists in India set out to produce a vaccine of their own in a country without adequate resources or infrastructure, and the film tells that race from inside the laboratories. Vivek Agnihotri’s hundred and sixty minute production is based on the book about the development of Covaxin written by Balram Bhargava, the former director general of the Indian Council of Medical Research, whom Nana Patekar plays on screen. It was built as something between documentary and fiction and opened worldwide on 28 September 2023. At the box office it did not find the audience it expected and closed without quite covering its budget. Pallavi Joshi both produced the film and appears in it, with Raima Sen and Girija Oak also in the cast.
