The Very Thought of You

Dave and his friend are given a three day pass. Both are sergeants in the army. They have just come back from the fighting in the Aleutians. They will spend the leave in Pasadena. They meet Janet on the bus. Janet works at a parachute factory. Her friend Cora is with her. Dave and Janet take to each other quickly. Before long they decide to marry. Her family is not warm about it. What the film is looking at is the hurried marriages of the war years, and the tension inside that household is its main line. There is no battle scene at all, the whole story staying with the people left behind. Delmer Daves wrote it as well as directing, and it opened in October 1944. Dennis Morgan, Eleanor Parker, Dane Clark and Beulah Bondi appear in the ninety nine minute film, an American production Delmer Daves finished in 1944.
