A woman living in Tin Shui Wai works at a supermarket; she and her teenage son share a small flat and a settled daily routine. An elderly woman moves in next door, and slowly the two of them begin looking out for each other. Nothing extraordinary occurs: food is cooked, shopping is done, exam results are waited for. That is exactly what Ann Hui wanted. Tin Shui Wai had spent years in the papers as a byword for tragedy, and Hui went there to film ordinary decency and everyday care instead. It is as plain as a documentary and never raises its voice. It took four Hong Kong Film Awards, including best director, best actress, best supporting actress and best screenplay.
