To Marry the Captain

Captain Alexander Blinov goes on leave. He has a small errand on the way. He is to deliver a package to someone called Lena. Lena is a freelance press photographer. She runs from job to job with no settled order. She does not get on with her neighbour at all. The retired man disapproves of the way she lives. He complains constantly and makes her life difficult. Delivering the package, Blinov lands in the middle of that quarrel. Then he gets drawn into Lena’s other troubles as well. What he wanted was a quiet leave. What he finds is one rush after another. Along the way he falls in love with her. Soviet daily life in the eighties sits behind all of it. The story runs as a romantic comedy. Vera Glagoleva and Viktor Proskurin appear in the ninety minute film, a Soviet production Vitaliy Melnikov finished in 1985.
