Travelling North

Frank is an old and cantankerous man. His appetite for life has never let up. Frances is the woman at his side. She is a good deal younger than he is. The two of them set out to spend their retirement together. They are going to Queensland. The warmth and the quiet of the north are waiting for them. There they will have each other to themselves. Frank’s nature, though, does not soften. He keeps the same hardness and the same stubbornness there. His body, meanwhile, begins to give out on him. He struggles to understand either his feelings or his body. Frances stands beside him and watches it happen. There is very little she can do. The story is sad and in places comic at the same time. Leo McKern and Julia Blake appear in the ninety six minute film, an Australian production Carl Schultz finished in 1987.
