What Tupac Shakur: Thug Angel Is About
The documentary takes up the life of Tupac Shakur, his music and his political position together. Where he grew up, the political past of his family and his entry into music stand at the start of the account. After that it takes up both what the fame brought and the conflict around him. The film does not reduce him to one thing: it shows him at once as a hard street figure and as a poet with something to say. Interviews with people of the period and archive footage are used. The account does not turn his death into a mystery; what it is curious about is how so much could fit into so short a time. Peter Spirer’s ninety two minute American documentary was completed in 2002.
