Three men in a provincial town urgently need money, buy a lottery ticket with the last of what they have, and win. Then the ticket is stolen. The rest of the film is the journey they take to get it back, one that keeps turning down the wrong road. The story is not new: it comes from a tale Ion Luca Caragiale wrote at the end of the nineteenth century, a text everyone in Romania knows. The film carries it into the present, along with small town bureaucracy and desperate cunning.
