José Manuel Poncelis What Under California: The Limit of Time Is About
Damian is a married artist living in Los Angeles. He hits a woman with his car and leaves the scene. Afterwards he sets out to settle accounts with what he did. Alone, he travels to Mexico, to the land his family came from. With the help of a local guide, Arce, he finds his grandmother’s grave. He begins a long walk through the dry and empty country. The film builds atonement not as a ceremony but as a road. Where facing what you ran from becomes possible is the real question. Jesús Ochoa and Damián Alcázar appear in Carlos Bolado’s ninety six minute Mexican film, completed in 1998.
