What Colosio Is About
Mexico, 1994. An indigenous uprising breaks out in Chiapas at the start of the year. In March, Luis Donaldo Colosio, the ruling party's presidential candidate, is shot in the middle of a crowd at a rally in Tijuana. The country locks up. Alongside the official investigation a secret one is opened, and Andrés Vázquez is put in charge of it. At the same time another officer is given a different order: clear the witnesses, destroy the records. The closer Andrés gets to the truth, the more his own life and his family are in danger. Carlos Bolado directs the Mexican film; a hundred minutes, with José María Yázpik as Andrés. The assassination is real; Colosio was killed on 23 March 1994. The official finding was that one man acted alone, but the case is still argued about in Mexico, and the film takes a side in that argument.
