What Unexpectedly Yours Is About
Cathy Garcia-Sampana's 2017 Filipino film follows Patty and Cocoy, who meet again after thirty years. Organising their school reunion, they also become neighbours. The film runs two generations in parallel. An attachment also begins between Patty's daughter and Cocoy's nephew; the narrative refuses to find love in middle age ridiculous and gives both lines equal weight. Sharon Cuneta and Robin Padilla are together again after a long gap. The tone is light and the close arrives where expected. Who it's for: those who like Filipino romantic comedy. Who it's not for: viewers wanting an unpredictable story; the film follows a familiar shape.
