Meet, Greet & Bye

A mother devoted to Korean dramas decides to stop her chemotherapy; she has lost hope of getting better. Before she dies she wants one thing: to meet the Korean actor she adores. He is coming to Manila for a run of events. Her four children make an agreement: they will get their mother to the actor, and in exchange she will go back to treatment. The problem is that the four have not spoken to each other in years. Cathy Garcia-Sampana builds a family drama through fan culture. The narrative moves between comedy and weight; the siblings being forced to work together is as much its subject as the attempt at the meeting. Maricel Soriano plays the mother. Piolo Pascual, Joshua Garcia and Belle Mariano are also in the cast. Who it's for: Viewers who like Filipino family drama, narratives about fandom, and multi-generational stories. Who it's not for: The emotional peaks are constructed openly and the music underlines them further. The illness narrative also runs in familiar shapes.
