Vinodayathra

Sathyan Anthikad's 2007 Malayalam film follows Vinod, who cannot put his life in order. Constantly at odds with his family, he is sent to his sister's house in a village, where he has to learn both to work and to be patient. The subject is how arrogance gets broken. Vinod looks down on everyone at first; the narrative changes him not by lesson but through the problems of the people he meets, and does not hurry the transformation. Dileep leads with Meera Jasmine opposite him. Anthikad is known for films about middle-class life in Kerala; the humour is everyday and there is no violence. Rural locations and music are foregrounded. Who it's for: those who like warm Malayalam family drama. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a driven narrative; the film is long and lightly plotted.
