What Manassinakkare Is About
Old Kochu Thresia’s childlike behaviour wears her family out, and nobody will humour the demands they find bizarre. She finds an unexpected friend in Reji, a level-headed young man who asks what she actually wants and then goes and does it. Sathyan Anthikad’s film treats old age without pity, through the question of what a person still wants. Sheela came back to a leading role after a long absence and stands at the centre of it, with Jayaram, Innocent and Siddique alongside. Nayanthara made her screen debut here; the director had found her in a jewellery advertisement in a magazine. Ilaiyaraaja wrote the music.
