Gandhinagar 2nd Street

Sethu, out of work, is hired as a watchman by the residents of one street. The first half is plainly a neighbourhood comedy; his friend Madhavan pretends to be a thief so that Sethu will look good to his employers, the plan turns around and Madhavan is the one who gets beaten. When Sethu’s former sweetheart Maya moves onto the same street with her police chief father, the film slides somewhere more serious. Sathyan Anthikad directed; Sreenivasan wrote the screenplay from Anthikad’s story and plays Madhavan himself. Mohanlal leads, with Karthika, Thilakan, Seema, Innocent, Sukumari and K. P. A. C. Lalitha around him, and Mammootty appears briefly. It opened on 4 July 1986 and was later remade in Telugu and Tamil. The record gives the running time as 132 minutes while other sources say 150.
