What Ponmuttayidunna Tharavu Is About
Bhaskaran, a goldsmith, is madly in love with Snehalatha, the daughter of Panicker the astrologer. When he goes to ask for her hand he meets something he did not expect: she denies that anything was ever between them. What follows is an effort both to understand the reason for that refusal and to stay out of the mouths of the town. The film treats village life, gossip and the difference in standing with humour, and speaks from inside the everyday comic vein of Malayalam cinema in the eighties. The account puts its main character in ridiculous positions but never mocks him; its look stays warm. Sreenivasan and Urvashi appear in Sathyan Anthikad’s hundred and twenty two minute film, completed in 1988.
