We Are the Lambeth Boys

The documentary follows the members of a youth club in London at the end of the fifties. The camera goes into their daily life: work, the street, the dance and the arguments at the club. The young people speak in their own words, and the way they talk becomes the language of the film. The account neither holds them up as an example nor presents them as a problem. The difference between how working class young people look and how they are is the real subject. The work Karel Reisz did here is counted as part of a new vein in British documentary. The fifty three minutes are given to one circle alone. Jon Rollason narrates. The British documentary was completed in 1959.
