Laichun is a headstrong girl about to turn sixteen. She lives with her father, his two wives, her developmentally disabled uncle and her grandfather; the head of the household took a second wife because he believed the family name had to continue. When an unexpected pregnancy arrives, this crowded, noisy house has to carry something together that is heavier than any of them can manage alone. Chang Tso-chi had always looked at men in his earlier films, and this is the first time he tells a story from a woman’s side. It collected more nominations than any other film at the 2010 Golden Horse Awards and won best feature.
