The documentary draws a portrait of the photojournalist Tim Hetherington’s work, from Liberia to Afghanistan and on to Libya. Hetherington was killed by shrapnel from mortar fire in Misrata, Libya, in 2011, and the film was made by Sebastian Junger, who shot Restrepo with him and shared its Academy Award nomination. The account is built out of Hetherington’s own footage together with what his family and colleagues have to say, and it looks at what someone photographing a war actually does and what he chooses to see. The seventy nine minute American production premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on 21 January 2013, was broadcast by HBO and opened theatrically on 11 October 2013.
