What White Night Wedding Is About
On the small Icelandic island of Flatey, Jon, a middle-aged professor, is to marry a former student half his age the next day. But the night is long: his mother-in-law is against the marriage and wants her loan repaid before it, his plan for a golf course on the island is going nowhere, his best man has disappeared drunk, and the memory of his dead first wife is everywhere. A night of drinking and thinking leaves it unclear whether Jon will get to the church. The summer night never darkening leaves every event of the film in the same light. Baltasar Kormákur’s ninety six minute Icelandic film took its starting point from Chekhov’s play Ivanov.
