Wiro Sableng: 212 Warrior

Angga Dwimas Sasongko's 2018 Indonesian film is adapted from a long-read series of novels. Wiro, trained in silat, is sent by his master after a former pupil. The film gives its weight to the fights. The choreography is built on traditional silat with experienced fight performers in the cast; the narrative keeps its humour and does not take its hero seriously. Vino G. Bastian leads. The production was considered expensive for Indonesian cinema and received international distribution. The effects are heavy and the pace high; the narrative is left open to a sequel. Who it's for: those who like Indonesian action and silat choreography. Who it's not for: readers who know the novels; the adaptation changes the book's line freely.
