Young Tom Edison

The film tells the boyhood of Thomas Edison. Tom is keen on experiments from an early age. He has made a corner of the house his workshop. His attempts often go wrong. Sometimes he sets the place alight. Sometimes he disturbs the neighbours. The townspeople find him odd. Because of it he is at odds with his father. The man does not understand what his son is doing. His only support is his mother. She believes he will do great things one day. An incident shows everyone what the boy can do. Mickey Rooney and Fay Bainter take the leads, with George Bancroft also in the cast, in Norman Taurog’s American film of 1940.
