Anne-Aymone Giscard d'Estaing What 1974, une partie de campagne Is About
Valéry Giscard d’Estaing invited Raymond Depardon to film him during the 1974 presidential campaign. The camera stays beside the candidate, in the car, in the back rooms, in the moment just before he meets a crowd, and records politics as it is before it becomes a performance. Once elected, Giscard was not pleased with that closeness and went to court to stop the film being shown. It sat on the shelf for twenty-eight years; when he changed his mind it went out on Arte in 2002 and then into cinemas. Its first title was the share of the vote he won; the title it carries now was given to it later.
