Raymond Depardon C Claudine Nougaret What Journal de France Is About
Between 2004 and 2010 Raymond Depardon drove around France in a camper van, photographing the country with two large-format plate cameras. At the same time his partner and sound engineer Claudine Nougaret opened up the footage he had been keeping for years: his first steps behind a camera, television reports from all over the world, material never used. The film sets those two lines side by side and becomes a notebook of a life. The distance between the man now working slowly, alone, with an old plate camera and the hurried reporter he once was is the film’s quiet subject. It screened out of competition at Cannes in 2012.
