What A Lover's Return Is About
Jean-Jacques Sauvage comes back to Lyon, the city he was born in, as the director of a famous international ballet company. Twenty years earlier a childhood friend, the wealthy silk merchant Jerome Nizard, had tried to have him killed, and he now sets about settling accounts with that family. Henri Jeanson and Louis Chavance wrote the screenplay, Arthur Honegger composed the music and Louis Page shot it. Christian-Jaque’s film screened at Cannes in September 1946 and opened in France on 18 October. The title is not a coincidence: it was the first film Louis Jouvet made after returning from the years he spent in exile in Latin America during the Occupation.
