What Don't Tempt the Devil Is About
A wealthy industrialist being treated for a heart condition dies after an injection given by his nurse, and the accusation lands on her at once. The dead man’s wife pushes the case with the help of the celebrated lawyer Cassidi, who is also her lover, while the nurse is defended by a barrister barely started in the profession. Christian-Jaque, adapting Jean Laborde’s novel of 1960, is interested less in how justice works than in how it is assembled. Bourvil, known to French audiences for comedy, plays the examining magistrate here and holds the quiet centre of the case.
