What The Law Is the Law Is About
The imaginary town of Assola sits on the border between Italy and France, with the line running straight through the middle of it. Ferdinand, the French customs officer, has one purpose in life, which is to catch Giuseppe smuggling across from the other side. That holds until Giuseppe discovers that Ferdinand was in fact born on the Italian side and therefore cannot legally be a French customs officer at all. Christian-Jaque puts the biggest name in Italian comedy, Totò, in the same cast as the biggest name in French comedy, Fernandel.
