What Who Killed Santa Claus? Is About
A small village in the French Alps is shaken on Christmas night by a chain of connected events: a sacred ring is stolen and a man dressed as Father Christmas is found dead. Adapted from Pierre Very's 1934 novel, the film builds its tension inside the atmosphere of a fairy tale rather than a detective story. Its date is part of the story too: made in 1941, it was the first film produced by Continental Films, the German owned company operating in occupied France, and Christian-Jaque took the job on the condition that the film would not be propaganda. Harry Baur leads it. It was shot at the Neuilly studios in Paris and on location at Chamonix.
