About Her Brother

Ginko’s younger brother Tetsuro is a failed comedian and the man who brings trouble on the family: loud, embarrassing and, when it comes to it, entirely out of order. Ginko eventually cuts him off. When she learns that he has a terminal illness the two of them come together again, and the time Tetsuro has left becomes the place where affection and forbearance start over. In Yoji Yamada’s hundred and twenty six minute Japanese film, Sayuri Yoshinaga plays Ginko and Tsurube Shofukutei plays Tetsuro, with Yu Aoi and Ryo Kase in the cast. The film was dedicated to Kon Ichikawa’s picture of the same name from 1960 and closed the 60th Berlin Film Festival in 2010.
