What a Wonderful Family! 3

Three generations live together in the Hirata house. One afternoon Fumie, the housewife, falls asleep, and when she wakes she finds that the secret money she kept hidden in the refrigerator has been stolen. That small event shakes every balance inside the house; who has been hiding what, and who has been expecting what from whom, all comes out one by one. The film builds the tension inside a family not from scenes of quarrelling but from things said at the table, and keeps the comic and the wounded side by side. It is the third film in the series. Whether the missing money is found or not, the real matter inside the house is by now a different one. Isao Hashizume and Kazuko Yoshiyuki appear in Yoji Yamada’s hundred and twenty three minute Japanese film, completed in 2018.
