What Tora-san, Our Lovable Tramp Is About
Yoji Yamada's 1969 film is the first link in the long-running Tora-san series. Torajiro was thrown out of his father's house twenty years earlier and has been a travelling pedlar working the fairs ever since. He comes back to the neighbourhood he was born in, Shibamata in Tokyo, and walks back into the lives of his aunt and uncle and his sister Sakura. He starts causing damage immediately; getting drunk and wrecking an arranged marriage meeting is only one instance.
