Akkare Akkare Akkare

Priyadarshan's 1990 Malayalam film follows two men sent to America to recover a gold crown stolen from India. They have a few clues, neither is suited to the task, and the comedy comes from that. The film is the last part of a trilogy with the same characters. The mismatch between Ramdas and Vijayan is the known dynamic of the series, and being in a foreign country makes it more pronounced. Mohanlal and Sreenivasan lead, with Sreenivasan also involved in the writing. Part of the filming was done in America, unusual for Malayalam cinema at the time. The narrative is loose and the joke density high. Who it's for: those who like nineties Malayalam comedy and follow the series. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a standalone film; the narrative refers back to the earlier ones.
