What Aurora Borealis: Northern Light Is About
Olga, a successful lawyer in Vienna, is called back to Hungary when her elderly mother Mari suddenly falls into a coma. While the older woman hangs between life and death, Olga comes across the trace of something her mother never told anyone. The further she follows it, the further back it reaches, as far as the Europe of the fifties just after the war. The film gives the distance between mother and daughter by setting two periods beside each other, and it says that silence is itself a kind of inheritance. Mari Torocsik and Ildiko Toth appear in Marta Meszaros’s hundred and four minute Hungarian film, completed in 2017.
