What Brigade Miscellaneous in the Mountains and at the Sea Is About
One instalment in Romania's popular crime comedy series of the 1970s. The squad known as the Miscellaneous Brigade is assigned a drug trafficking case this time, and as usual they do not go about it by the book. The narrative moves between the mountains and the sea, so it carries something of a holiday film as well. What made the series loved is less the plot than the cast: Toma Caragiu, Dem Rădulescu, Jean Constantin and Sebastian Papaiani, the best known comedians of the period, all in the same film. The humour rests on types, each character with his own repeated habit. It is a typical and well working example of state-produced entertainment cinema in socialist Romania.
