What Callaway Went Thataway Is About
Two advertising people dig up the forgotten old films of the cowboy star Smoky Callaway and put them on television; the films are an unexpected hit and the star is suddenly in demand again. The trouble is that nobody can find him. When a lookalike sends in his photograph, the team hires the man to impersonate Callaway. Things go badly wrong when the real Callaway turns up. The film makes fun of the way television manufactures a reputation and shows stardom itself as a piece of marketing. Fred MacMurray, Dorothy McGuire and Howard Keel appear in the eighty two minute film by Melvin Frank and Norman Panama, completed in 1951.
