Chicken and Duck Talk

Hui runs an old-style roast duck restaurant in Hong Kong. The place is a mess, the kitchen is ancient, he treats his staff badly and is not especially polite to the customers either. Then a bright, orderly, heavily advertised fried chicken chain opens directly opposite. The customers drift over there. Hui decides to fight back, but first he will have to look at his own shop. Michael Hui takes the lead in Clifton Ko's comedy, with his brother Ricky Hui and Sylvia Chang also in the cast. The film is about the clash between the chains arriving in Hong Kong at the end of the eighties and the small trader, and it criticises both sides. The humour is in the everyday detail: hygiene, prices, tips, staff. It was one of the most watched Hong Kong comedies of its time.
